Vanora Arlene Weber Fry, 89, died June 7, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born January 27, 1920, the daughter of Henry Weber Jr. and Mabelle Franklin Weber in Renfrow, Oklahoma.
She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1937, and Kansas State University in 1941, where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
Vanora was married to LeRoy Frank Fry in the Caldwell Methodist Church in 1941, moving to the farm south of Little River where LeRoy farmed. She taught in the Little River High School for 20 years. She was the FHA adviser and on the State Board for Vocational Education. When LeRoy was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives, Vanora served as Chaplain and President of the Kansas Legislative Wives.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Little River and upon moving to Hutchinson she joined Trinity United Methodist Church. In Little River she taught Sunday School and was on the Administrative Council. Vanora was on the Great Bend Mental Health Center Board, City Library Board at Little River and was appointed to the South Central Kansas Library board by Governor Graves. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rice and Reno Counties Democrat Women, Rice County Thrift Shop Board and Little River Community Foundation.
She is survived by: three daughters, Shari West and husband Steve of Loudon, Tenn., Rhonda Coleman and husband Bob of Mulvane, and RoAnne Ory and husband Dave of Harrisonville, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Robinson and husband Mark, Stacy Pineda and husband A'Drian, Skye Cook and husband Si, Jessica Shaw, Cathy Bellew and husband Todd, John Coleman, Anne Coleman and Joshua Ory and wife Amanda, Joab, and John and Jacinda Ory; and eight great-grandchildren, Madison, Lacy and Kaiya Ory, Savanna Robinson, George and Chloe Shaw, Dakota and Baylee Bellew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Sherilyn and a brother, Damon Weber.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Little River with Pastor Theresa Forshee presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Bean Cemetery, Little River.
In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials to First United Methodist Church of Little River, or Hospice of Reno County, both in care of the mortuary.
