Velma E. Baker, 92, died Feb. 19, 2006, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born Feb. 24, 1913, near Conway Springs, the daughter of Roy and Irene Bell Hopper. She graduated from Conway Springs High School and Venus Academy of Cosmetology, Wichita. A resident of Hutchinson for 60 years, she was a homemaker and worked at Long's.
On June 6, 1937, she married John "Jack" Baker in Wichita. He died Feb. 19, 1984.
Survivors include: a son, John, Hutchinson; a daughter, Jean Crouch and husband, Chuck, Lantana, Texas; a sister, Blanche Whitney, Wichita; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hopper, Wichita; three grandchildren, Kelly Bray, Mindy Johnston and Matt Crouch; and four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Sahra, and Lorraine Bray and Miller Johnston.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Melville Hopper.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
