Velma Maxine Burns received her celestial promotion on Sept. 23, 2008.
She was born March 3, 1920, in Neosha, Mo., the daughter of William E. and Nola Naomi Riggs Taylor.
She graduated from Neosha (Missouri) public schools and later Adela-Hale Business School. A Hutchinson resident most of her life, she was a bookkeeper for Saylor Cleaners and Otasco before retiring.
She was past president of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.
On June 15, 1937, she married Raymond Sanders. He died Aug. 4, 1996. They were divorced and she later married Ralph F. Burns on June 1, 1974. He died Jan. 28, 1994.
Survivors include: a sister, Betty Cramer, Urbandale, Iowa; granddaughter, Sheri Seachris and husband, Fred, Buhler; grandson, Rick Johnson and wife, Jackie, Great Falls, Va.; son-in-law, Jack Johnson, Hutchinson; eight step- children, Garth and Debbie Burns, Lawrence, Colleen and Steve Drown, Oakhill, Va., Myrna Burns, Fairfax, Va., Dennis and Connie Burns, Hutchinson, Bruce and Connie Burns, Topeka, David Burns, Conyon, Calif., Mary and David Marvin, Kent, Wash., and Annette Burns, Conyon, Calif.; six great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 13 step- grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Patricia Ann Johnson; stepsons, Mark and Roger Burns; three brothers, Glenn, Kenneth and Joe Taylor; and two sisters, LaVern Scott and Faye Jeffers.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Travis Heneha presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas or Hutchinson Good Samaritan Center. The family wishes to thank Hutchinson Good Samaritan and Hospice Care of Kansas for their loving care given to our grandmother over the many years.
