Velma Gingerich Givens Roper, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013. She was born Feb. 4, 1925, at Haven, the daughter of Eli J. and Mattie Fry Gingerich.
She was a member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, belonged to Countryside Bowling League, Women of the Moose, Chapter 1371, and had been a waitress for several area family restaurants, including Mom's Cafe, South Hutchinson. She is survived by: four sons, Roger Givens of Hutchinson, Rod Givens of South Hutchinson, Dennis Givens (Brigitte) of Hutchinson and Gregory Givens of Hutchinson; a sister, Lovella Torbert of Apache Junction, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joe, Merle, John and Fred Gingerich; a sister, Mary Lou Chappel; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Givens; and a grandson, Christopher Givens.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, with Pastor Warren Hett officiating. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorial gifts may be made to Mennonite Friendship Communities, Harden Hospice or to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
