Obituary

Velma M. Hipp, 89, died Sept. 14, 2008, at Hospice House.

She was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Arlington, the daughter of John Peter and Beulah May Breese Koestel Jr. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1936. A resident of Hutchinson, she was retired from Consolidated Manufacturing, working there for 22 years.

She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church.

On Dec. 7, 1977, she married William H. "Red" Hipp, in Wichita. He died Dec. 12, 2006. Survivors include: two sons, David L. Ewing, and Edwin E. Ewing, both of Hutchinson; a daughter, Joyce E. Hardesty, Salisbury, Md.; a brother, Kenneth Koestel, Hutchinson; a sister, Corinne Gibson, Fort Worth, Texas; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlys Ann Atteberry, a brother, Vincent Koestel, and a sister, Esther Smalley.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Partridge Cemetery, with Chaplain Bob Phelps presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
