PRETTY PRAIRIE – Vera Lee Elliott Kirkhuff went into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 9, 2015. She was born Oct. 17, 1918, in rural Nickerson, the daughter of Virgil T. and Lola O. (Dixon) Slifer. She graduated from Reno County High School in 1937; devoted to Nickerson High School Alumni since 1963.
She was a Biblical Scholar and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church all her life. She took joy in teaching Sunday school and all church activities throughout her years of service. One of her life highlights was a trip to the Holy Lands.
Her precious blessings are: her children, Joyce Dyson (Ron), Kenneth Elliott (Nancy), and Rita Mae Wildin (Jerry); five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by first husband, Henry J. Elliott; son, Sidney Steve Elliott; and grandson, Brent W. Dyson; second husband, Robert Kirkhuff II; stepson, Robert Kirkhuff III; and a step-granddaughter, Kathy Kirkhuff.
Private graveside service has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at rural Fairview United Methodist Church, with Pastor Teresa Wynn presiding.
