Obituary

Vera Schriever was escorted by her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Sept. 28, 2009 through the gates of heaven to the mansion he built for her. Vera Jean Horst was born the sixth child to John and Marie Horst on Feb. 4, 1936 in Oak, Neb.

Vera was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Ruskin, Neb. She graduated from Nelson High School, Nelson, Neb in 1954.

Vera married Myron "Mike" Schriever on Nov. 21, 1954 also at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Ruskin, Neb. After moving to Hutchinson, Ks in 1955, Vera worked as the head teller at the formerly known Farmers State Bank of Yoder, and as District Administrator for Peoples Natural Gas.

After Vera retired in 1991, she and Mike became winter Texans and she was involved in activities such as bingo, pitch, and helping in the kitchen at the Pine to Palm Retirement Resort in Weslaco, TX. Vera volunteered at Knapp Medical Center and worshipped at Sierra Valley Church.

Survivors include husband Mike, of the home, two sons, Mark (Wantha) Schriever, Topeka and Doug (Debra) Schriever, Partridge; daughter, Sandee (Mike) Bishop, Peculiar, Mo; grandchildren, Eric (Kelly) Schriever, Edwardsville, KS, Scott Schriever, Wichita, Jenna Bishop, Kansas City, MO, Curtis Schriever, Manhattan, Ks, Bryce Bishop, Peculiar, MO, great grandchildren, Eliza and Gabe Schriever, Edwardsville, Ks; sisters, Verna (Les) Brandt, Friend, Neb, Norma Walker, Winfield, Alabama, Lila (Gary) Honeycutt, Haven, Donna (Russell) Genung, Deshler, Neb, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John (Janice) Horst, Bob Horst, Alfred Horst, sisters Evelyn (Eldred) Hinz, Lillie (Don) Hofferber, and brothers-in-law, Gene Walker and Roger Dondlinger.

Funeral will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2009 at Journey Church at Yoder with Lee Keele officiating. Visitation will be 9-9 Thursday with the family present from 6-8 at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County in care of the mortuary. Please visit www.elliottmortuary.com to leave condolences for the family.
