Verda Faye Hollar Hicks, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 7, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 18, 1934, the daughter of Henry Frost and Ruby Mae Lytle Hollar.
Verda graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1951. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. Verda was a great cook and entered many things in the State Fair, winning blue and purple ribbons. She was also a lover of animals and had many special pets.
On Feb. 3, 1952, she married Billy Eugene Hicks in Medicine Lodge, Kan. He died Dec. 9, 1999.
Family was very important to Verda and she leaves behind: four daughters, Beth Newburn (Larry), Linda Burdette (Ken), Lisa Gnoth all of Hutchinson and Kerri Fleming (Gary) of Bartlesville, Okla.; two sisters, LaVada Hine of Manhattan, Kan., Marilyn Daily of Thornton, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Ruth Selmon.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Willard D. Stafford presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter or the American Heart Association, in care of the mortuary.
