Obituary

Vernon G. Bogner Sr., 82, died Oct. 31, 2012, at his home. He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Bent County, Colo., the son of Harry Ray and Esther (Sara) Bogner.

On Sept. 14, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Jean Block in Hutchinson. She passed on March 12, 2012.

He graduated from Haven High School and Hutchinson JUCO where he was known for his track skills. He was a lifelong farmer; caring for crops and livestock for others and on the family farm. He had a special love for his dogs and his family. Vernon was a knowledgeable, expert mechanic who worked for Dwight Thomas Motors, also building race car engines for Haskard Racing. He then retired from Panhandle Eastern Pipeline after 28 years.

Survivors include: two sons, Vernon Gene Bogner Jr. of Hutchinson, James L. Bogner and wife Karilynn of Burrton; two sisters, Wanda Pritchett, Nelda Geffert and husband Bill, all of Haven; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and an infant daughter, Tama Sue Bogner.

A memorial graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Valley Township Cemetery, rural Haven, Kan., with Reverend Amy Dame presiding, weather permitting. Alternate site is the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, rural Haven. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today through service date at Elliott Mortuary, or at the services.
