Vernon Vincente Ojeda, Sr.'s Obituary
Vernon (Vicente) Ojeda Sr., 90, died Jan. 25, 2015, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Galva, Kan., the son of Arnulfo and Francisca Ojeda. Vernon was a resident of Hutchinson since the 1930s.
He retired from Santa Fe Railroad on June 29, 1984, after 42 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.
On Jan. 23, 1960, he married Lupe (Lucille) Hernandez in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Vernon Ojeda Jr. and wife Dana, and David Ojeda, both of Hutchinson; three daughters, Barbara Ornelas and husband Johannes of Tulsa, Okla., Teresa Gutierrez of Wichita, and Cathaleen Hoffman of Hutchinson; four sisters, Rachel Cortez of Ottawa, Hazel and Virginia Ojeda of Kansas City, Mo., Pat Navarro of Hutchinson; 16 grandchildren, Tito, Miguel, and Mario and wife Lana Enriquez, Victor and Alex Ojeda, Devin Ojeda and wife Erica, Gerald Hoffman Jr., Brandon Hoffman, Jerica Cornejo and husband Adam, Blaine Hoffman, Whitney Hoffman, Justin Battershell, Valery Villarroel, Angelica Gutierrez, Marcus Gutierrez and wife Johana, Victor Ornelas and wife Kelsey; 14 great-grandchildren, Jayanna, Boston, and Tuffy Cornejo, Hampton and Creighton Ojeda, Alex Ojeda Jr. Natali, Kylee, Katlyn, Alicia and Lorenzo Enriquez, Grayson and Dylan Ornelas, Isaiah Gutierrez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnulfo and Francisca Ojeda; two brothers, Paul and John Ojeda; two sisters, Ruth Castor, and Ramona Rodriquez.
Parish Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Father Ned Blick officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with family present from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
