Vesta J. Pownell's Obituary
Vesta J. Pownell, 81, died March 25, 2008, at Hospice House.
She was born April 18, 1926, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Ernest and Alice Hill Pownell. She was a 1944 graduate of Hutchinson High School, attended Hutchinson Junior College and the University of Colorado and graduated from Emporia State Teachers College. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, she retired in 1981 as a clerk for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church and Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Albert Pownell; and a sister, Beda Jo.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to the church, Hospice of Reno County or First Call for Help, all in care of the mortuary. Personal condolences may be sent to www.elliottmortuary.com.
