Victor David Viegra, 74, died Nov. 17, 2005, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.
He was born July 28, 1931, in Great Bend, the son of Jose and Felice Leon Viegra. He graduated in 1950 from Larned High School. A Hutchinson resident since 1959, moving from Kansas City, Mo., he was a courier. He also had worked for A.D. Rayl Motor Co., Cessna Aircraft/Eaton Manufacturing for 33 years, and Central Bank and Trust Co. for 35 years.
He belonged to St. Teresa Catholic Church and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, both of Hutchinson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as Cpl (T), receiving the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He married Jessie Martinez. On July 22, 1971, he married Phyllis June Mahoney at Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David, Hutchinson; a stepson, Robert Mahoney, Knoxville, Tenn.; five daughters, Victoria Cooper and Christina Shafer, both of Hutchinson, Veronica Viegra, Independence, Mo., Valerie Cox, Wichita, and Jennifer Frye, Lenexa; a stepdaughter, Sue Page, Hutchinson; his stepmother, Martha Viegra, Texas; a brother, Jose Viegra, Texas; a sister, Nora Balderama, Texas; 13 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Felicia A. Viegra Woodson; and three sisters, Flora Perez, Lolita Viegra and Lucile Viegra.
Rosary will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with Father Stuart M. Smeltzer and Pastor Jim Autrey presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday and from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Memorials may be sent to the McPherson Hospice of Kansas or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.
