Vina E. Holmes, 91, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Rice County District Hospital. She was born July 3, 1924, at Jetmore, the daughter of Glenn and Edith (Wilson) Hamm.

Vina's teaching heart had an oft-noted impact on two generations of students. The stocking caps she crocheted and donated kept hundreds of children warm.

On Sept. 18, 1948, Vina married Elmer Lloyd Holmes. He died Oct. 8, 2011. She is survived by two sons, Syd (Mary) of Hutchinson and Melford of Plevna. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Orval Hamm.

Family graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Pleasant View Cemetery, with Pastor Steve Gill officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
