Viola Nightengale Unruh Shaw, 95, died March 19, 2006, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born March 9, 1911, in Verden, Okla., the daughter of Abraham J. and Ella Schmidt Nightengale. She lived in Montezuma, Ks. and DeRidder, La. before moving to Hutchinson in 1946. She attended school in Lamar, Colo. She worked for Highland Growers, DeRidder, and after moving to Hutchinson, she was a cook at the former Quality Cafe and Coberly's Drug Store.
She belonged to Eastwood Church of Christ.
In 1929, she married Tobias P. Unruh in Lamar. He preceded her in death. On June 27, 1952, she married Omar Liebman. He died in 1967. On March 9, 1996, she married Lester G. Shaw. He died Jan. 13, 1997.
Survivors include: a son, Kenneth G. Unruh and his wife, Elnora, Hutchinson; a daughter, Norma Unruh Crawford, Huntington, Ore.; a brother, Walter Nightengale and wife, Adeline, Los Banos, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Jacob Boese, Hutchinson; a sister, Pearl Nightengale Landon Mohr and her husband, Elmer, Hutchinson; a sister-in-law, Virginia Nightengale, Gustine, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eunice Fay Unruh Willard Vincent; three brothers, Clarence, Wesley and Albert Nightengale; and three sisters, Iva Nightengale, Alma Nightengale Boese and Erma Nightengale Gregory.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, in Fairlawn Cemetery, with Wayne DeWindt presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to Eastwood Church of Christ or to Hospice of Reno County, both in care of the mortuary.
