Obituary

Violet Louise Kohrs, age 100, of Buhler Sunshine Meadows, peacefully left her earthly body and slipped into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and into the presence of God on Aug. 7, 2008.

She was born March 18, 1908, at Dillon, Kansas, the daughter of William C. and Christina (Sigle) Sandow. Raised in rural Dickinson County, she graduated from Chapman High School and taught school for two years. On Dec. 25, 1931, she was united in marriage to Hugo Kohrs, south of Hope, Kansas, and then the couple resided in Hutchinson. He passed away on April 14, 1992. Together, they ran a dairy farm in northern Hutchinson for a few years. She and Hugo were members of the First Baptist Church in Hutchinson from the early 1930s. There, she taught Sunday School, was active in the Ladies' Circles, sang with the Chancel Choir for several years and played in the Handbell Choir later in life. She was a homemaker, enjoying many types of needlework and gardening, and entering clothing and foods in the Kansas State Fair, where she won many ribbons. Her family enjoyed her homemade root beer.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherryl Willms and husband Russell, of Little River; one sister, Wilma Stumbo, Hutchinson; and three granddaughters, Sheila Regier and husband Jaris, Buhler, Sheria Willms of Emporia, Kansas, and Suzette Willms of Topeka, Kansas. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews as well as friends.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alvin and Melvin Sandow, and a sister, Edna Redd.

Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Fairlawn Burial Park, open to all who wish to come. The service celebrating her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, with Pastor Stephen Taylor presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Elliott Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church, in care of the mortuary.
