Violet E. Ramsey, 95, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at her home in Hutchinson.
She was born March 14, 1914, at Bucklin, the daughter of James L. and Mary Jane Dalrymple Ramsey.
She was a retired elementary school reading teacher. She had taught in Russell, Dodge City and Hutchinson, since 1954. She was a graduate of Ft. Hays State Teachers College with a B.A. in Education, and held a Masters Degree from Western State College at Gunnison, Colo. She had also done graduate studies at Syracuse University in New York.
Miss Ramsey was a member of the Forest Park Presbyterian Church, Church Women United, Delta Kappa Gamma Education Sorority, American Association of University Women, American Business Women's Assn., Women's Civic Center, and the Hutchinson Area Retired School Personnel.
She is survived by three nephews, Charles Arndt, Haven, Alvin Hammar, Wichita, and Larry Rudd, Bucklin; two nieces, Bertie Hughs, Hutchinson, and Janie Stahlecker, Bethune, Colo.; seven great-nephews; and three great-nieces and their families.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Ernie Williams presiding. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Bucklin Cemetery, Bucklin, Kansas. Miss Ramsey will lie in state Tuesday 3 to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, where the family will greet friends on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m.
