Violet L. "Vi" Schmucker, 94, died Oct. 25, 2008, at Dillon Living Center.
She was born June 25, 1914, in Sterling, Ks., the daughter of Richard "Dick" and Emma Rupp Engbrecht. She had been a resident of Hutchinson since 1959, moving from Wichita. She was a homemaker and had been a salesperson for Nelson Music for over 12 years.
She belonged to the First Southern Baptist Church, where she played the piano and organ for 40 years.
On Feb. 18, 1935, she married Loftin W. Schmucker in his home near Sterling by Loftin's father, Noah. He died July 9, 1988. Survivors include: a brother, Earl Engbrecht, Wichita; and 18 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldon, and LaVerne Engbrecht; three sisters, Selma Mosier, Wauletta Eastland, and Irene Farney; a nephew and two nieces.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 29, 2008, at the First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastors Ray Kempel and Darrell Farney presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
