Virgie Margaret Goerl, 88, died Oct. 5, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Chase, Kan., the daughter of John Godfried and Mary Elizabeth Hoover Dressel.
Virgie was a 1940 graduate of Chase High School. She was a former member of Little River United Methodist Church and Ebenezer Methodist Church of Lyons and was a current member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. She taught for two years at the Sunnyside Grade School after graduating from Chase High School. After teaching, she worked at both Dillons and Swift and Company in Lyons. She was a community leader for the Country Pals 4-H Club, served on the Rice County Fair Board, and was a member of the Evening Bells HDU. She served as the Hutchinson district president of the United Methodist Women and also served as an officer of the West Conference for United Methodist Women for several years.
On Aug. 1, 1948, she married Vincent Kenneth Goerl in Lyons, Kan. He died Feb. 3, 2001.
Survivors include: four children, Vincette L. Goerl of Ft. Belvior, Va., Vernon J. Goerl and wife Sandy of Hutchinson, Vaughn A. Goerl and wife Stephannie of Great Bend, Kan., Valerie A. Besperat and husband Paul of Timken, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Kyle Goerl and wife Danae of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kraig Goerl of Lansing, Kan., Sara Goerl of Hutchinson, Lee Goerl of Manhattan, Kan., Ryan Goerl and wife Ashley of Henderson, Nev., Katie Goerl of Manhattan, Kan., Aaron Goerl of Great Bend, Kan., Phillip Besperat of Newton, Kan., Teresa Satterwhite and husband Dean of Ft. Dix, N.J.; two great-grandchildren, Jolie and Waylon Satterwhite. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a stepmother, Margaret Dressel; and a sister, Grace Poole.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Reverends Pat Ault-Duell and Jim Rhaesa presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, with family to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. that afternoon at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Little River Methodist Church or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, in care of the mortuary.
