Virginia S. (Siebert) "Ginny" McGovern, 95, died Oct. 5, 2015, at Regent Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Wichita. She was born July 11, 1920, in Pretty Prairie, to Edward V. and Ethel W. (Bramwell) Siebert.
Virginia graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1938 and from Kansas State University in 1942. She was a homemaker until her children left home and then enjoyed a career in the early days of "special" education, contributing her sensitivity and creativity working closely with the director of a school for children previously thought to be uneducable, helping in the fledgling development of methods now used at all levels of education. She followed that with work at the Kansas State Fair as a ticket taker and archivist. She also volunteered at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center for 20 years. Ginny was a member of the New Jerusalem Church in Pretty Prairie.
On May 27, 1942, she married Arthur D. McGovern in Pretty Prairie.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Arthur, who died Oct. 19, 1985; her parents; and brothers, Cecil, Virgil and Gilbert Siebert. Her living legacy includes: daughter, Jeanette Nunn of Pleasant Grove, Utah; son, Douglas McGovern (Teri) of Wichita; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and countless people who were touched by her love and acts of thoughtful kindness.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Jane Siebert officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Star Cemetery. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, at Elliott Chapel.
