Virginia L. Switzer, 69, died March 14, 2013, at Hospice House. She was born March 19, 1943, in Wichita. Virginia graduated from Nickerson High School in 1961, and from Sydney's Hairdressing College in 1974. A member of First Southern Baptist Church, she was a homemaker and owner/operator of Curl and Twirl Beauty Salon of Nickerson.

On November 21, 1961, she married Larry L. Switzer at Salem Community Church, Nickerson. He died May 4, 2008.

Survivors include: son, Rick Switzer and wife Sarah, Hutchinson; two daughters, Elizabeth Skellenger and husband Bill, McPherson, and Trina Combs and husband Denny, Yoder; five grandsons, Jason Urban and Luke Skellenger, McPherson, Grady Switzer, Kechi, and Matt and Chase Wilson, Hutchinson; brother, Don Porter, Pennsylvania; sister, Shelly Washburn, Wellington; three brothers-in-law, Johnny Switzer, Alaska, Kirk Switzer and wife Bev, California, and Dwight Switzer and wife Carol, Salina.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Larry L. Switzer, parents, Glen and Bula Seitz, and grandson Gage Gunner Switzer.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastors Tom Freeman and Ray Kempel officiating. Inurnment will be in Salem Community Church Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to the Virginia Switzer Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary.
