Obituary

Virginia Mae Isaacson Yohe of Garland TX passed away peacefully on Saturday October 18, 2025, at the age of 92 while under hospice care at Ventana Senior Living in Dallas, Texas.  Virginia was born April 3, 1933, in Braham, MN, the daughter of Clarence Victor Isaacson and Hannah Mae Jernigan Isaacson.  Growing up predominantly in the Topeka Kansas area, she lived in numerous states in the 19040s as her father followed his work supporting the war effort.  She was a 1950 graduate of Argentine High School in Kansas City, Kansas and proudly attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence on scholarship, where she met the love of her life, William Russell "Russ" Yohe.  They exchanged vows on September 7, 1952, at KU's Danforth Chapel and were married for almost 43 years, until his death September 3, 1996.  After her sophomore year, Virginia decided to step away from her studies to support Russ in finishing his degree in electrical engineering.  Upon his graduation, Russ was drafted into the army anddeployed at White Sands NM.  Virginia found herself living on base in El Paso TXwhen she gave birth to the first of her three daughters, Rhonda.  After the army, the Yohes decided to make Texas their permanent home, moving to Ft. Worth where their second daughter Linda was born and 2 years later to Garland where Rebecca was born.  Virginia made her home there for 65 years until her health required her move to Ventana.

Virginia embraced motherhood and "playing house" as Russ put it, being the consummate homemaker, seamstress and Betty Crocker home chef.  She sewedmatching dresses for her girls, cooked, cleaned and even vacuumed in a dress withher pearls on ALA June Cleaver.  She was best known for her famous Chocolate Chip cookies and for her Lemon Meringue pies. Virginia was President of the Freeman Elementary PTA, a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader, and a regular volunteer for class field trips and church events.  A woman of strong faith, Virginia started out life as a Lutheran, grew into adulthood as a Methodist and finally found her church home at First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in Garland TX, where she was a beloved member for over 55 years.  She was a member of theDisciples Women's Ministry and served in various leadership roles with the church.

Virginia believed strongly in the importance of education. When her daughters began attending college, Virginia returned to school and completed her bachelor's degree in education August 1978 at Texas Women's University in Denton, TX. Her love of teaching grew out of her love for children. Focusing on her belief that "If they can learn to read, they can read to learn", she taught 2nd grade in Garland for 10 years at Walnut Glen Elementary, then 8 years at Beaver Elementary before retiring in 1996.  Her proudest career moment was being named Garland Independent School District Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 1990.   As a teacher, with summers off and extended holiday breaks, Virginia enjoyed travelingwith Russ on his many overseas work trips, going to England, Israel, Australia and South Africa to name a few.  She delighted in spending Christmas on 3 different continents.

Retirement came soon after the loss of her beloved husband Russ, but her two young grandchildren Jefferson and Michala kept her busy and focused on the importance of moving forward.  Known as Grandy, she took every opportunity to crow about those grandkids and loved seeing them grow into adulthood. Virginiawas a loving and fun-loving, compassionate and caring woman who enjoyed good food, getting together with family and friends, reading, playing rummikub, bridge, canasta or any card game, solving sukudos and taking good long naps.  She was beloved by her whole extended family as well as by many friends and neighborsand will be dearly missed.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Hannah Mae, her husband William Russell Yohe, and her sister Lois Jean Brunton of Perry KS.  She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Meyer and son-in-law Joseph A Meyer Sr. of Morgan's Point TX, Linda Yohe and son-in-law Byron B Luke of Dallas, TX; and Rebecca Yohe and son-in-law Leonard J Reese of Austin , TX, and two grandchildren, William Jefferson Reese and granddaughter-in-law Julia Ross, and Michala Graham Meyer, all of Austin, TX and by her brother Clarence "Ike" Isaacson and sister-in-law Carol of Princeton, MN, and brother Paul Isaacon and sister-in-law Patty of Alabaster, AL and a multitude of extended family includingin-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and other cherished friends.  The family is grateful for the care and love Virginia received during her illness by the nurses, aides, therapists, culinary, lifestyle and care teams at Ventana and Freedom Care hospice.
