NICKERSON- Vivian D. McFadden, 97, died April 9, 2007, at Good Samaritan Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Feb. 6, 1910, in rural Alden, the daughter of Burt W. and Cese Emma Monson Vincent. She graduated from Reno County High School in Nickerson, received a bachelor of arts degree from Sterling College and had worked on a master's at Emporia State University. A resident of Nickerson, she was a retired schoolteacher, started teaching at Mennonite Country School southwest of Sterling and taught all eight grades, and taught third grade a Nickerson for 16 years.
She belonged to Nickerson United Methodist Church. She was past president of the UMW at the church, taught Sunday school for 20 years, served on many church boards, holds the longest church membership, member of the Phi Gamma Mu Sorority, the NEA, The Knife and Fork Club, the Retired Teachers Association, the Community SS Club in Nickerson, the Nickerson Library Board, American Association Of Univ. Women, past member of the YWCA and helped with Girl Scouts and 4-H.
She enjoyed reading, needlework and loved working with children.
On May 8, 1932, she married Damon H. McFadden in Nickerson. He died April 4, 1992.
Survivors include: two daughters, Karen J. Russell, Hutchinson, and Cheryl A. Lahar and husband, Jim, Lucas, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Nickerson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Lowry presiding. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery.
