W. Keith Shrum, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at the Veterans Hospital in Wichita. He was born Dec. 28, 1931, in South Mound, the son of Lewis "Dutch" and Bernice (Peterson) Shrum.
He was a 1950 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1958 graduate of Ozark Christian College. Keith was a U.S. Army veteran. He had been a Christian Church minister for over 60 years, serving in Kansas, Missouri, Texas and New Mexico and also was on the Board of Directors with Cookson Hills Christian Ministries for over 52 years. On April 5, 1957, he married Bonna Jean Fields in Lamar, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include: their children and spouses, Timothy (Lenore) of Bellevue, Neb., Christopher (Erin) of Hebron, Ind., Steven (Barbara) of Moore, Okla., and Jeana (Chuck) Hayes of Paragould, Ark.; a brother and sister, Everett Shrum and Leita Beard, both of Erie; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jay Dee, Kenneth and Ernie; and a sister, Lois Bowman.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at Crossroads Christian Church, 4310 N. Monroe, Hutchinson. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. at New Mount Hope Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ozark Christian College or Cookson Hills Christian Ministries, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
