Waldo Dudley "Wally" Brees, 92, died Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers. He was born March 4, 1921, at Clayton, New Mexico, the son of Dudley and Florence Wickstrum Brees.

He was a 1939, graduate of Leonardville High School and a member of Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church. Wally was an air traffic controller and tower chief at Battle Creek, Michigan and Salina retiring in 1973, with 28 years of service.

On January 14, 1941, he married Maurine Bernice Nordstrom in Randolph, Kansas. She died May 28, 2000. He later was married to Marjorie Buchman. They divorced.

He is survived by: daughter, Beverly (Larry) Catherman of Hutchinson; a son, Gary (Kris) of Kansas City, MO; a brother, Roland (Jerry) of Fairview; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Holmberg of Overland Park; four grandchildren, Scott (Kendall) Brees, Jay (Kristin) Catherman, Deann (Dave) Helton, and Barbara (Chris) Hermesch; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dale.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no service. Interment will be at a later date in Valley View Memorial Gardens, Manhattan.
