Wallace Gene "Wally" McKinney, 83, died Jan. 24, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Englewood, Kan., to George and Esther (Bowers) McKinney.
Wally graduated from the University of Kansas in 1955, with his Bachelor of Science in Business. Wally was a CPA and entrepreneur. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, the Pacific Lutheran Board of Regents for 12 years, Christian Friends Fellowship, and The Pitch Club.
On June 28, 1959, he married Joan Shaft in Hutchinson. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together. Wally is survived by: his wife, Joan of the home; daughter, Janet So and husband Hyo-Jin of Olympia, Wash.; son, Robert McKinney and fiancée Kristy Wescott of Aurora, Colo.; granddaughter, Karen So of Bellingham, Wash.; and brother, Charles McKinney and wife Gloria of Englewood, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, David McKinney.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 105 Curtis St., Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church's columbarium. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, with family to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Emanuel Lutheran Church.
