Walter C. "Walt" Burnett, 86, died Oct. 7, 2013, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. He was born May 20, 1927, in Arlington, Kan., the son of James and Juanita Applegate Burnett.
Walter was a 1945 graduate of Arlington High School, a 50-year member of Hutchinson Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A. M., a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and an Army veteran serving in Korea. Walt was a lineman for Westar Energy (formerly Kansas Power & Light Co.) with over 41 years of service.
On Sept. 12, 1948, he married Betty L. Beal in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Curtis of Wichita; a daughter, Janine (Jack) Tips of Austin, Texas; brothers, Harlan Beal (Judy) of Hutchinson, Phil Schrader (Timi) of Kansas City, Mo., Herbert Beal (Celia) of Roseburg, Oregon, Max Schrader (Bobbi) of Hutchinson; sister, Beverly LaClair of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Frances Burnett of Arlington; grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Jason Burnett, Jeremy Burnett, Matthew Burnett; and a great-granddaughter, Sienna Burnett. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harry; and a sister, Esther Hughbanks.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Tom Mayse officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
