Walter 'Gene' Eugene Bridgess, 95, passed away May 2, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler, KS.  He was born February 21, 1927, in Hutchinson, KS, to John Walter and Gertrude June (Newlon) Bridgess.

Gene was a 1945 graduate of Hutchinson High School.  He served in the United States Navy and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.  Gene was the Director of Produce for Dillon Stores, retiring in 1990 with over 45 years of service.

He enjoyed wood carving, gardening, and being outdoors.  Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman.

On June 3, 1951, he married Carol Lola Ging, in Hutchinson, KS.  They shared over 67 years of marriage, prior to her death on December 17, 2018.

Gene is survived by:  his children, Thomas Bridgess of Hutchinson, Anita Baker and husband Wayne of Colorado Springs, CO, and Scott Bridgess of Pottsboro, TX; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Juanita Rothweiler of Derby, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
