Obituary

Walter A. Garver, 85, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 26, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson.

He was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Hutchinson, the son of Abraham and Katie Miller Garver.

Walter attended school in Hutchinson and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was a member of the VFW Bob Campbell Post #1361 in Hutchinson. Walter worked at Cessna Fluid Power and retired from Eaton Corp. after 22 years of service.

Survivors include: daughters, Deanna Samms (Bob) of Hutchinson and Joyce M. Rempel (Barry) of Goddard; brothers, Eddie Garver of Hutchinson and Abraham "Jr." Garver of Bendex, Md.; sisters, Sarah Schrock of Oklahoma, Clara Yoder of Portland, Ore., and Gertie Miller of Illinois; three granddaughters; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ray A. Garver; two sisters, Viola Garber and Edna Fry; and a son, Gary Garver in 1978.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Riley, Kan. A visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, with the family present to greet friends 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, all at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Honor Flight Fund, sent in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson KS 67501.
