Obituary

Walter H. Hunt, 93, died Jan. 6, 2014, at his home. He was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Claude, Texas, to John Kelcy and Ruby (Lill) Hunt.

He graduated from Claude High School in 1939. He attended Texas Tech University. Walter retired as District Manager for Dekalb Agriculture Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hutchinson. He belonged to the Optimist Club and the Reno County Shrine Club. Walter was also a member of the Wounded Warrior Project.

On Nov. 5, 1943, he married Fontella L. Burrow in San Antonio, Texas. She survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Sharon Bauer and husband Kent of Wichita and Linda Showers and husband Glenn of Normangee, Texas; four grandchildren, Scott Showers and wife Beth Ann of Claremore, Okla., Lucas Showers and wife Christy of Borger, Texas, David Ricksecker and wife Cara of Washington, D.C., Amy Tamimi and husband Al of Hays; and 10 great-grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Scott Showers officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. A reception will be held at Wesley Towers immediately following the graveside service. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
