Obituary

Walter D. Woodson, 85, died July 4, 2006, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Penalosa, the son of Herschal and Pauline Isbel Woodson. He graduated from Langdon High School and attended Salt City Business College. A Hutchinson resident since 1949, he was a retired plumber for former Sawyer Plumbing Co.

He attended Medora Community Bible Church.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.

On Jan. 13, 1946, he married Mary J. Lewis in Danville, Ill. She survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Mona Gilliland and her husband, Butch, Marquita Jobe-Frederiksen and her husband, Michael, and Rita Schwartz and her husband, Danny, all of Hutchinson; five grandchildren, Lori Cox and her husband, Ivan, Angey Hohl and her husband, Neil, Matt Jobe and his wife, Kim, Amanda Jobe, and Amy Kraft and her husband, Ben; and seven great-grandchildren, Trey Cox, Kirsten and Seuris Hohl, Savannah and Kennadi Jobe, and Eli and Zeke Kraft.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Richard, Roy, Ernest, Virgil, Paul and Leonard.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Wayne Johnson presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Lerado Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
