Wanda Lee "Babe" Nelson Holmes, 96, died Oct. 22, 2010, at Wesley Towers-Hester Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Aug. 25, 1914, in rural Reno County, to Fay E. and Zella Mae Dickenson Wightman.
She was a 1932 graduate of Sylvia High School, a 1933 graduate of Hutchinson Community College, and a 1935 graduate of Emporia State University. She retired as a teacher from Turon Elementary School in 1945. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She married Curtis Russell Nelson on Aug. 16, 1943, in Turon. He died Jan. 20, 1973. She married Gerald Sherlock Holmes on May 15, 1981, in Hutchinson. He died May 17, 1989.
Survivors include: daughter, Carolyn Taylor and husband Ronald, Haviland, and stepdaughter, Shirley Sadowski, Newton; grandson, Tom Taylor, Haviland; grandson-in-law, Kelly Wittman, and great-grandson, Alec Wittman, both of Meade; and seven step-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Lisa Wittman, stepson, Ronald Holmes, a brother, and a sister.
Memorial graveside will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Reverend Jim Rhaesa officiating. Visit www.elliottmortuary.com to leave personal messages for the family.
