Obituary

Wauneta M. Darnell, 100, died October 18, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 20, 1923, in Falls City, Nebraska, to Frank and Ethel (Cook) Peck Sr.

Wauneta graduated from Falls City High School in 1941. On August 6, 1941, she married Al Darnell in Falls City. They shared 66 years of marriage until his passing on October 16, 2007. The couple moved from Nebraska to Sterling, Kansas in October 1956, then to Wickenburg, Arizona in 1973, and finally to Hutchinson in 1985.

Wauneta was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church, in Hutchinson, and she was a Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Member.

She is survived by: daughter, Barb Brothers (Jon), Hutchinson; grandchildren, Steve Brothers (Sabina), Eagle Point, Oregon, Marcie Webb (Scott), Yukon, Oklahoma, Debbie Baird (Tracy), Bixby, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Braydon Webb, Hannah Webb, Zachary Baird, and Hallie Baird.

Wauneta was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Don Darnell; and brothers, Harold, Loran, Don, and Frank Jr. Peck.

Graveside service will be 1 pm Monday, October 23, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 am to 5 pm on Friday and Saturday or 1 to 5 pm on Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County or New Covenant Presbyterian Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
