Alfred Wayne Lawson, 88, died August 7, 2013, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born May 9, 1925, in Hutchinson, the youngest son of Dwight and Florence Lawson. He attended Hutchinson schools, graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942, and attended KU. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943, and served as an infantry soldier in four major European campaigns. One of those included the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star. He spent most of his working years in the retail industry, retiring as vice president of the Gibson Products Co. On March 21, 1947, he married Mary Elizabeth Lorenz in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: children, Larry Lawson and wife Shirley of Hutchinson, Gary Lawson and wife Elizabeth of Hutchinson, Dawn Bennett and husband Monte of Sterling, David Lawson and wife Kari of Topeka; grandchildren, Cheri Blank and husband Brad, Traci Lawson, Derek Lawson and wife Angela, Nichole Lawson, Hayley Lawson, Angie Riner and husband Cullen, Zachary Lawson, Jordan Lawson, Acacia Lawson, Brianna Bennett and fiancé Austin Pfannenstiel; great-grandchildren, Kyler, Kolby, Kendyn Blank, Gracie, Leavie, Gentry, Lawson Riner, Jamison Lawson, Simon Lawson.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Quentin and John Lawson, and sister, Helen Lawson.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2013, at Christ's Bible Church, 3 South Cheney, Nickerson, with Pastor David R. Landis officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
