Wayne Elbert Schaben, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
He was born July 29, 1918, in Ness County, the son of John and Verda Ryersee Schaben.
He was a lifetime Ness County resident before moving to Sterling in 1999, a 1936 graduate of Bazine High School, attended Ft. Hays State University, U.S. Army veteran serving in Normandy and Northern France, a 63 year member of the American Legion Post #392, Bazine, past Bazine school board member, Bazine United Methodist Church and farmer/stockman in the Bazine community.
On Aug. 30, 1949, he married Marjorie Erb at Ransom. She survives.
Other survivors include their children and spouses: Charles and Renate Schaben, Yucaima, Calif., Cheryl and Kim Carey, Sterling, Karen Perry, Denham Springs, La., Arlyn and Venus Schaben, Ogallala, Neb., Joni and Steve Shaw, Selden, a brother, Lyle and Natalie Schaben, Great Bend; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alva and his wife Emma, a son in law, and a granddaughter.
Cremation is planned. A committal graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, in Bazine Cemetery with Pastor George D. Hinton officiating.
A memorial book will be available to sign 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Military honors will be conducted by the Bazine American Legion Post #392. Memorial gifts may be made to Bazine American Legion.
