Wendell Earl "Jake" Jacobs, 81, died March 21, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born July 14, 1931, in Oberlin, Kan., the son of Eldon Earl and Florence (Strain) Jacobs.
Wendell graduated from Eureka High School in 1949, and from Kansas State in 1954 with a degree in political science. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He worked as an engineer for Schlumberger Oil, and later worked for Monroe Calculators. After retiring there he started his own geological mapping company, G & E Company. He was an avid golfer.
On Nov. 26, 1953, he married Tillie JoEllen Lyons in Eureka, Kan. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years; two daughters, Janet and Rick Mathias of Syracuse, Kan., and Kristi and Neal Lewis of Shawnee, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Blanca and Robert Ireland of LaVista, Neb.; grandchildren, Jeff and Tori Mathias, Chris Mathias, all of Syracuse, Kan., Lindsey and Nathan Hansen of Broken Bow, Neb., Brad and Amy Lewis of Chicago, Ill., Brian Lewis and Brandon Lewis, both of San Fransisco, Calif., Aundrea and Jason Rush of Sunrise, Fla., Adrian and Nicole Jacobs of West Allis, Wis., Johana and Paul Gonzalez of Derby, Kan., Gabrielle Jacobs and Ariel Jacobs of La Vista, Neb.; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Jacobs; his parents; and a sister, Janice Pantier.
A private family graveside service will be held at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book today, Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
