Wilber C. "Speedy" Bruegger, 86, died Oct. 14, 2007, in Joplin, Mo.
He was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Bushton, the son of Edwin John and Mattie Bell Keys Bruegger. He was a 1939 graduate of Bushton High School and was an alumnus of Fort Hays State University. He was raised in Bushton, lived in Farmington, N.M., for 38 years, Hutchinson for four years and Nevada, Mo., since 2003. He was a retail sales and repairman with Jones & Laughlin Oil Field Supply Co., Farmington, N.M., and a banker with First National Bank and Wells Fargo Bank, Farmington, N.M., for 15 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He belonged to Bushton United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma at Fort Hays State.
Survivors include: a brother, Virgil, Nevada, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Wes Anderson presiding. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bushton Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Bushton.
