Obituary

Wilbur Eugene Goheen, 90, died Monday, January 8, 2018, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born August 21, 1927, in Hutchinson, the son of Jesse L. and Ethel W. (Hauser) Goheen.

Wilbur served in the United States Army during World War II, then the enlisted reserve corps until September 1950, when he was returned to active duty during the Korean War. Following the Korean War, he enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard and served for over 16 years. Wilbur worked as a hoist operator at the Carey Salt Mine, until his retirement. He then volunteered as a tram operator at the Strataca salt mine museum. Wilbur was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #982, State Fair Promenaders, Hutchinson American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68, and Eastwood Church of Christ.

Wilbur married Lillian L. Snell in Hutchinson. She died August 29, 1994. On November 9, 2004, he married Esther L. Dunham in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Clark of Lyons; stepdaughter, Julianne Smith of Hutchinson; stepson, John L. Howell of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Dudrey, Shawn E. Smith, Heather Lac Kamp, Jason and Jeff Howell; several great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Goheen (Dixie) of Hutchinson; sister, Donna Humiston (Richard) of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Laymond, Jesse Lee Jr., and Virgil.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Steve Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
