Willa June Powell, 89, died December 5, 2013, at her home in El Dorado. She was born November 15, 1924, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Mahalla Eunice (Pittman) Porter. Willa graduated from Pierceville High School, Pierceville, Kansas, and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. A homemaker, she was a resident of Junction City from 1953 to 1979, moving then to Hutchinson and later to El Dorado.
On November 16, 1948, she married William S. Powell in Junction City, Kansas. He died February 24, 1979.
Survivors include: children, Cheri Zelenka and husband Ron of Hutchinson, Pat Luman and husband Ken of El Dorado, Barbara Williams of Towanda, and Scott Powell and wife Shelly of Hutchinson; sisters, Norma L. VanDeere of Hutchinson, and Wynona Morley of Downey, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Gerald Porter, and a grandson, Derek Morley.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with grandson, Pastor Christopher Powell presiding. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Fort Riley Post Cemetery, Fort Riley, Geary, Kansas. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
