Obituary

William "Bill" Schwartz, 74, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 23, 1942, in Hartington, Neb., to Matt and Josephine (Lattman) Schwartz.

He graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in 1960. Following graduation, Bill joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Riley. In 1961, he was honorably discharged. On June 30, 1964, he married Shirley Dietsch in Bow Valley, Neb. They celebrated 10 years of marriage before she passed away on Feb. 27, 1975. He married Carolyn Chew on Dec. 31, 1976. They later divorced. Bill was an entrepreneur at heart. After working in the industry, he started Midland Credit in 1968, which he later sold. He also was one of the founding partners of Paganica Golf Course and Supper Club, now known as The Highlands. Bill was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #612 and the V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361 of Hutchinson. Those who knew Bill best know he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and card player.

Survivors include: his eight children, Jackie Brady (Paul) of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., John (Chris) of Kansas City, Mo., Jan Pogue (Mike) of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Renee Christopherson (Jeff) of Overland Park, Matt (Lisa) of Erie, Colo., Jered (Jamie) of Hutchinson, Mark (Jackie) of Denver, Colo., Jim of Austin, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and his wife, Shirley.

Parish rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Ned J. Blick presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
