William F. "Bill" Weesner, 82, died July 16, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Hutchinson, the son of Arthur "Bud" and Margaret Ann Jones Weesner.
Bill graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1943 and then joined the United States Marines Corps, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He then transferred to the Air Force retiring as a Tech Sgt. He worked as a guard for the Hutchinson Reformatory and was a custodian at Hutchinson High School for many years. Bill grew up in the Presbyterian Church and was an Eagle Scout and a member of the NRA. He was an avid outdoorsman loving hunting and fishing. He was also an accomplished woodcarver and taxidermist.
On Sept. 6, 1947, he married Patricia Ann "Pat" Wheeler in Hutchinson. She died Aug. 4, 2007.
Survivors include: daughter, Karen Hitchcock and husband Hayden, Hutchinson; sons, Chuck Weesner and wife Bev, Sylvia, Bill Weesner and wife Connie, Hutchinson, James Weesner and wife Tina, Hutchinson; brother, John Weesner, Sugarland, Texas; sister, Barbara Koblynski of Buffalo, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur "Bud" Weesner and Margaret A. Donnell.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, with Rev. Jim Francis presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday. Burial will be in Peace Creek Cemetery with military honors conducted by McConnell Air Force Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Quivira Wildlife Refuge in care of Elliott Mortuary.
