Obituary

William Thomas "Tom" Richey, Sr., 77, died Feb. 5, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 9, 1936, in Pittsburg, Ill., the son of Frank and Caral D. (Dickerson) Richey.

He graduated in 1954 from Marion H.S., Marion, Illinois, and then enlisted in the United States Navy, in which he served for 27 years as a gunner's mate. After retiring from the Navy he moved to Hutchinson and worked and retired from Morton Salt. He also worked as a Navy recruiter in Hutchinson for many years.

On March 16, 1956, he married Cecilia "Arlene" Mendenhall in Newton, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include: daughter, Suzanne Sims and husband Greig of Hutchinson, and their children, Allen Sims, Nick Sims and wife Tammy, all of Hutchinson; daughter, Rhonda Lynn Armer of Hutchinson, and her children, Mitchell Hargrave, Aaron Hargrave, both of Hutchinson, and Wesley Armer of Michigan; daughter, Lanette Richey of Hutchinson, and her son, Noah Anthony Richey of Hutchinson; son, William Thomas "Bill" Richey Jr. and wife Becky of Hutchinson, and his daughter, Sara Vieyra and husband Travis stationed at the Quantico Marine Base, Va. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private family service will be held at Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Dodge, Dodge City, Kan., with military honors conducted by the United States Naval Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
