William Howard Tipton, Sr., died November 3, 2011, at his home in Hutchinson.
He was born Feb. 19, 1947, the son of Everett L. Tipton, Sr. and Jean Faye Perryman Tipton.
He graduated from Newton High School in 1965, and then enlisted in the Navy serving in Vietnam. He retired as a cook for Bernard's Restaurant and was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
On August 10, 2007, he married Christie G. Stuart, in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: five children, William H. Tipton, Jr., of Olathe, Ricky R. Tipton of Hutchinson, Jeffrey Tipton and Denise Carter both of Newton, and Jade Blakey of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Courtney Stuart, Chauncey Stuart, Charitey Stuart, and Kaleaha Blakey, all of Hutchinson; siblings, Carol Johnson of Wichita, Elaine Brashears and Melvin Tipton, Jr., both of Hutchinson, Mary Alice Jackson of Pensacola, Florida, Michael W. Tipton of Hutchinson, and Michelle K. Johnson of Hesston; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his ever present companion, Dingo.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday Nov. 7, 2011, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William J. Green, Sr., presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church, in care of the mortuary.
