Obituary

William Leonard Tolliver, 85, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

He was born March 28, 1926, at Stratford, Okla., the son of William and Ethel Cushman Tolliver.

He graduated from East Central Oklahoma State University, Pittsburg State University and Wichita State University. William was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater, and was in the Battle of Leyte Gulf on the USS Fanshaw Bay. He was also a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, a member of KNEA, HARSPA, and was an elementary school principal, serving 21 years at Obee Elementary School and retiring in 1988.

On June 28, 1952, he married Harriett L. Dunn at Miami, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include: their children and spouses, Holly and Steve Ray of Olathe, Mark of Katy, Texas, and Christy and Dave Maskil of Sterling; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles, and a sister, Helen Sabsay.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, with the Rt. Reverend Michael P. Milliken officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami, Okla., with Mother Susan Connell officiating.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, Grace Episcopal Church or the YMCA, Hutchinson, all in care of the mortuary.
