Willis C. "Willie" Hurst, 77, died Oct. 28, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Savannah, Mo., to Norman W. and Elizabeth E. (Pyle) Hurst.
Willie worked laying heavy machinery for the Alaskan Pipeline in the 1950's, installed and took out telephone lines for Zolman Construction, worked at Detroiter Mobile Home, drove a truck for Jack Tull, and in shipping and receiving for Cessna. Willie served in the United States Navy from Dec. 17, 1956, and was honorably discharged Dec. 16, 1962. He was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 and Christ Bible Church in Nickerson.
On Jan. 28, 2000, he married Julene L. Raymond in Savannah, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Willie Hurst of Texas; stepsons, James Rush of Hutchinson, Anthony Rush of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Willie was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Willis C. Hurst Jr.; and siblings, Virginia Denny, Charles Hurst, Imogene Coil, Dorothy Abersole, and Elaine Hurst.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 at a later date.
