Obituary

Willis Orville Hopper Jr. was born May 27, 1923, in Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas and lived nearly all his life in Hutchinson.

His parents were Willis Orville and Goldie Cecil (Hegarty) Hopper. He attended Hutchinson elementary schools and Hutchinson High School.

During World War II he spent two years and ten months in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and received an honorable discharge from the service. After his training, all the rest of his time was served in the European Theater of Operations.

He was a charter member of the Temple Baptist Church, but after the war was over he joined with the saints who meet at the Gospel Chapel. He had accepted God's gift of salvation at the age of fifteen, and counts it a real blessing to be called a child of God. He has served as an elder of the church.

Since the war was over most of his work has been done in serving only two employers. He was a building custodian for eighteen years in the Hutchinson Public Schools. Then he served as Building Maintenance Supervisor in Hutchinson National Bank until retiring at the end of 1988.

He married Wanda May Burson, December 29th, 1946. She bore him two children: Phyllis Joan, and Simeon Keith. She was taken home by our Lord on March 27th, 1990. On June 22nd, 1991, he married Mary Prudence Brown, who had born seven children with her first husband. They are Gary Dean Brown, Tony Brown, Kevin Mark Brown, Timothy Allen Brown, Sherrol Louise Gora, Abigail Brown and Denise Annette Weber. Mary preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2002.

He was preceded in death by five sisters and a brother. His surviving sisters are Goldie Grace Childs of Plevna, KS and Vivian Lorine Webb of Stockton, KS.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 22, 2012, at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson, with a Memorial service to follow at 12 noon at Gospel Chapel, 6th & Elm, Stephen Burson presiding. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, with family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
