Willis Nisly, 80, of Hutchinson, went home to be with his Lord and his beloved wife on Sunday, April 24, 2016, while in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 5, 1936, to Eli and Alma (Miller) Nisly in Nowata, Okla.
Willis went to West Eureka, a small country school. Willis worked as a body mechanic at Quality Body Shop in Hutchinson, for 40 years, before retiring in Jan. of 2015. He also spent many years training horses to ride. His favorite stallion was Gazmar. He delighted in giving young children in the community riding lessons. He made many friends while training horses. He and his daughter, Rhoda, would often be seen riding horses together. Willis was ordained as a pastor at the young age of 24. He loved his Lord deeply and was a faithful servant of God to the very end. Willis pastored at Chase Mound Mennonite Church, Westphalia, Plainview Mennonite Church, and Cedar Crest Amish Mennonite Church, both of Hutchinson. He was the founding pastor of Arlington Amish Mennonite Church, Arlington, and retired from ministry in Feb. of 2015.
On May 10, 1957, he married Becky Yoder in Hutchinson. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2015. Willis is survived by: children, Gerald Nisly of Wichita, Kenneth Nisly and wife Luana of Langdon, Twila Nisly of the home, Rhoda Kretzer and husband Mark of Hutchinson; siblings, Velma Plank of Goshen, Ind., Bunny Stutzman (Clarence) of Wooster, Ohio, Calvin (Orpha) of Clearwater, Fla., Sylvia Nisly (late John) of South Hutchinson, Harley (Norma) of Kalona, Iowa, Wayne (Luella) of Dublin, Ohio, Liz Bender (John) of Anaheim, Calif., Dorothy Miller (Ron) of Lancaster, Ohio, Marvin (Fern) of Harrisonburg, Va., Elva Smith (Rudy) of Corvallis, Mont., Maynard (Ruth) of Bridgeville, Del., Merle (Rita) of Red Lake, Ontario, Sanford (Emily) of Hartville, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael (Maggie) of Langdon, Loren of Manhattan, Kan., Stanley, Crystal, Wendy, Kevin, Daria, Kendrick, Karen, Steven, all of Langdon, Dari and Danika Kretzer, both of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Becky; parents; and a brother, Vernon Nisly.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Arlington Amish Mennonite Church, 15611 W. Arlington Road, Arlington, with Arlen Mast, Freeman Yoder, and Conrad Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Arlington Amish Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
