Obituary

Yozelle Unruh, 98, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 8, 2010.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church Chapel. Friends may sign her book 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Morutary. Burial will be in Lone Star Cemetery.

Yozelle was born Jan. 9, 1912, to John and Catherine Davis in Castleton.

Her husband, Colonel Marion Unruh, preceded her in death.

Survivors include: her sons, Jack Unruh and his wife Judy, Dallas, Texas, and Jesse Unruh, Ruidoso, N.M.; grandsons, Jack Unruh, Cary, N.C., and Mike Unruh, Gallatin Gateway, Mont.; granddaughters, Susan Unruh, Washington, D.C., and Chris Unruh, Dallas, Texas; nephew, Richard Hunter, Lenexa; niece, Cathy Wrenich, Topeka; grand nieces, Jody Miller, Heber Springs, Arkansas, Mary Van Bergen, Windermire, Fla., and Barbara Murray, Spokane, Wash.

Yozelle became a teacher after college and married Marion Unruh on January 16, 1933, at Pontiac, Michigan. From 1936, as an officer's wife, she lived in many areas of the country from Panama to Utah and places in between. Yozelle's most rewarding accomplishment was being a great mom doing all the good mom stuff. Later in life she was a housemother for a Kansas State fraternity and then a University of Texas sorority. In Hutchinson, she was a deacon in First Presbyterian Church. She was particularly proud of her membership in P.E.O. Chapter EK, where she met Carol Stone, who soon became her guardian angel, perhaps a daughter she never had.

Carol, along with her husband, Bob, was always there for Yozelle throughout the years. She was lucky to have this devoted friend, as well as the caring, generous people at Hester Care, Wesley Towers. They were close to her heart.

Memorial gifts may be made to New Jerusalem Church, Pretty Prairie, or Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
