Obituary

Zoe Shears, 76 died Aug. 20, 21006, at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers.

She was born June 24, 1930 in Muskegon, Mich., the daughter of Clinton C. and Rhoda A. Pegg Gasahl. She graduated from Montague High School, Montague, Mich., and attended Wichita State University. She was a longtime Hutchinson resident.

People will remember Zoe for her great big smile, sense of humor and infectious laugh. She loved holidays, with her favorite being Christmas. She was especially known for her handmade decorations, ranging from small Christmas tree ornaments to large lawn displays. She loved decorating, shopping and cooking for her family. She was famous for her potato salad. She was a talented person and artist with numerous hobbies, which she shared with her family, friends and the community.

She belonged to Grace Episcopal Church, served on the boards of Hutchinson Hospital/Health Care Inc., served as president of the Hutchinson Symphony and the Women's Auxiliary of the National Asphalt Paving Association, was involved with the American Field Service, Women's Medical Auxiliary and was a member of PEO Chapter BL.

In 1951 she married Dr. Tom Stivers. He died in 1974. In 1976 she married William H. Shears, Jr. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Robert Stivers and his wife Ann, Hutchinson; a daughter Susan Curtis and her husband Craig, Eden Prairie, Minn.; a step son
William Shears, Chicago; two stepdaughters, Sara Shears, Denver and Patricia Swartout and husband Steve, Elkland, Missouri; a sister Sheila Whisler, Greene Haven, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Tom Stivers and his wife Taylor Johnson, David and Christopher Stivers, Andrew Curtis, Bradley and JoAnna Swartout, Liz, Leah and Lynn Andrews; and a great granddaughter Lily Stivers.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Michael P. Milliken presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Alzheimer's Association, in care of the mortuary, Hutchinson.
