Zola Fern McGonigle, 87, Hutchinson, died Feb. 20, 2007, at the Pleasant View Home, in Inman.

She was born May 22, 1919, in rural Sterling, Reno County, the daughter of Emerson Bristol and Norma Evelyn Baker Belden.

Zola was a graduate of Alden High School. As a young lady she worked for J.C. Penney in Sterling. Later, she was a farm wife in the Nickerson and Abbyville areas. During part of the time, she worked for the Nickerson Argosy as a linotype operator, and The Hutchinson News
. She had been a Hutchinson resident since retiring from the farm in 1989.

Zola was a member of the Mitchell Methodist Chapel of Hutchinson. She helped organize the Genealogy and Historical Societies of Hutchinson, as well as the Cub Scouts and the Cameo, Idona Federated and Leisure Clubs of Nickerson.

On Nov. 20, 1942, she married Harry Wallace "Jack" McGonigle in rural Sterling, Reno County. They farmed in the Nickerson and Abbyville areas until 1989. He died March 22, 2002.

Survivors include: three sons, Jack D. and wife, Kathleen, Elkhorn, Neb., Jerry L. and wife, Georgia, Hutchinson, and Charles E. and wife, Amy, Topeka; a sister, Patricia L. Key, Sterling; two brothers, Gerald N. Belden, Sterling, and Danny E. Belden, Hutchinson; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a step-grandson; two step-great-grandsons, and two step-great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by husband Jack, and sisters, Shirley Sue Belden, Glennys Gunter, Mary Cross and Bonnie Ludwick.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Sara Dillinger presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park, in Hutchinson.
