Obituary

Scott Gordon Matheny, 69, died Oct. 17, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born March 18, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Coombs) Matheny.

Scott graduated from Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1962. Scott served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a carpenter, mechanic, home builder, and a sales manager for Snap-On Tools. More importantly he was a loving and attentive husband. He loved his daughters, biological and adopted, and adored his grandchildren. Scott was a member of the Baha'i Faith of Hutchinson.

On Jan. 21, 1995, he married Marsha Lee Himes/Johnson in Hutchinson, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include: three daughters, Andrea Foroughi and husband Joe of Alplaus, N.Y., Samantha Kleven and husband Bryce of Naperville, Ill., Jessica Fowler and husband Shawn of Hutchinson; brother, Virgil Matheny of Calif.; eight grandchildren, Louisa Foroughi, Juliet Foroughi, Paul Kleven, Tristan Cornell, Caitlin Brown, Alexsis Brown, Elizabeth Teter and Avery Kleven. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

A private family graveside service was held at Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorial service will be 7 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to the Scott Matheny Memorial Fund in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
